We're rapidly moving into the autumn season and after much hard work this summer the fields at Hunt Haven Shooting Preserve promise to be fantastic! Thanks to the recent rains, the milo and sorghum that was planted this summer has been growing well and the bird cover should be first rate. We've established a new dog training club, "Rappahannock Bird Dog Training Club" and memberships are available for individuals and families with all breeds accepted. There are AKC (American Kennel Club) sanctioned hunt tests planned as well as NAVHDA (North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association) tests. Wonderful opportunities to train your pup or fine tune your seasoned dog on quail, chuckars, ducks and pheasants, can be had during the frequent training day that take place throughout the season starting September 1, 2013 through April 30, 2014.

Additionally, we're excited about the planned scheduled Bird Shoot competitions. Five quail will be placed in the field where one, dog, one gun have 20 minutes. Or 5 quail, l gunner, 1 handler (for those of you who want to concentrate on training the dog) can compete as well. There will be prize money for winning category (Novice and Amateur) based upon the number of entries. The dates beginning in September will be listed on the calendar of events below.

Reservations can also be made for private hunts (with your own dog, or with an arranged dog and handler) for those of you that prefer. But act quickly as the available open days are filling rapidly.

For specific details of all of these events please contact Jim Channon, Owner of Hunt Haven at 804-761-6715 or leave at message at 804-333-0309 or email hunthaven@spinoneus.com or spinone@spinone.com. Hunt Haven is located at Spindle Mill Pond in Essex County near Hustle, Virginia 22476.
